@mmltsdad

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw and it does not scan. I'd like to assist you with this case.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Is the printer able to make a copy? Because of copy works fine then it indicates that the scanning hardware is good inside the printer.
  • Do you receive any error messages when you try to scan?
  • Are you trying to scan from the computer application or from the printer screen options?
  • Is the printer able to print instructions given from the computer?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

Now try to scan using the Scan app in Win10 using the below steps:

  1. Place the document or photo that you want to scan on the scanner glass, or load it into the automatic document feeder (ADF), if your printer has one.

  2. Search Windows for Scan, and then click the Scan app  in the list of results.

  3. If Source is an available option, select where you loaded your document or photo.

  4. Click Show more to change settings such as Color mode, Resolution, and where to save the file.

  5. Click Scan.

If the printer continues to not scan then please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor software. This software will identify and fix scanning related issues.

Please feel free to let me know the results. Hope this helps. Cheers! 🙂
