We have a windows7 64-bit machine with a LaserJet P2055 printer connected via USB. This works fine but we cannot use the Universal Print Driver due to compatibility issues with an application on the machine.
The machine is used to connect to a remote machine running Server2003 via RDP.
The RDP session fails to install the printer (in Session 1) because it does not have a local copy of the required driver. We cannot install the P2055 Driver because the installer cannot detect a local Printer.
Question: how can we install a driver for a P2055 (non universal driver) in a Terminal Services / RDP environment without actually having a local printer ?

To install a print driver on Win7 x64:
1. Transfer the driver files to the local machine where you want to use them
2. Navigate to Devices and Printers
3. Highlight a printer object from the default view
4. Select Print Server Properties from the tool bar (Only viewable when an object is highlighted)
5. Select the Drivers Tab
6. Click Add
7. Complete the Install a Driver wizard as necessary
The part you are most concerned about is during the print driver selection screen. Click the Have Disk... button and select one of the .inf files from the driver folder. The driver wizard will figure out what it needs and ask you to confirm anything that it cannot.
