HP LJ 9000N & HP LJ 9050 DN

Hi,

We have HP LASERJET 9000N & HP LASERJET 9050DN printer. We need to print directly from SAP but while printing printer pushing print to default tray. We have requirement to print each separately on different tray's of printer. We have printer with four trays. When we push print to tray 4 with bond paper printer setting, it goes to tray2. We raised this concern with SAP and they require Correct Print Control sequence (Print Control Command) for tray 4 of model HP Laserjet 9000N and HP Laserjet 9050DN. Please suggest the way to fix issue.

I don't know the PCL identifiers used for each target tray with this model of printer, sorry.

HP used to publish such information in the individual User Guide manuals, but no longer appears to do so.

You could try using the Tray Map tool in the PCL Paraphernalia application (available via http://www.pclparaphernalia.eu) to generate test print jobs using specified combinations of one or more of paper size, paper type, paper source (tray identifier), together with plex mode and orientation.

Alternatively, you could generate print job(s), using the Windows printer driver for the printer, and selecting the required tray via the Print dialogue, but also selecting the 'print to file' option in that dialogue; then use the PRN File Analyse tool in the above application to analyse the nominated .prn file containing the captured print job, and find out what sequences the standard driver uses.

 ... and a further point:

It would probably better to select the required tray using a combination of paper size and paper type attributes, instead of selecting the tray via its paper source (tray) identifier.

This depends on the printer trays being configured (via front panel menus, or Embedded Web Server equivalent) to set the appropriate paper type values for each tray (the paper sizes should be detected automatically via sensors attached to the paper width and length adjusters in each cassette tray), so that the printer 'knows' what it has in each tray.

Assuming that your SAP application is generating print jobs using the PCL5 Page Description Language, the paper type is specified via (one variant of) the  PCL5 Alphanumeric ID escape sequence.
