M277dw
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have successfully installed and used a Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw using a wireless connection.

I have now bought a second M277dw printer (for a different location) which I would like to use via a USB connection.

Presumably I do not have to install driver software for the second printer since I already have it installed but how can I tell the driver to use a USB connection for the second printer (but keep the wireless connection for the first)?

I am wary of just connecting the second printer using a USB since it warns in the 'Getting Started Guide'  section 5 not to do this.

Thanks

Hi! @aj_mcr, thanks for the response.

As you mentioned that you are connecting both the printer to the same laptop and you have the printer software.

You can try the steps mentioned below.

On your laptop go to desktop and find HP folder.

Check in the HP folder configure printer executable file and run the file.

Set up the printer using the USB cable.

If you can't find the option, Please reinstall the printer software and select USB connection from the list.

Since you are installing two printers on the same computer. There would be a conflict between the printers.

So you have to setup the other printer using the USB cable.

I'll keep an eye out for your response.

I hope you have a great day! 🙂

Hi! @aj_mcr

Welcome to the HP forums!  Good Day!   It is a great way to engage, post questions and find resolutions by working with specialists in the HP community.

As you mentioned that you need one of your printer connected via USB connection.

You have to install full feature software and select USB connection during the during the printer installation setup.

You can download the printer driver using this link.

Let me know if this works!

Have a beutiful day ahead! 🙂

Hi Chetan,

I am using the same laptop to print to both printers so I already have the software installed to print to the first printer using wireless.

Presumably I don't have to install the software again to print to the second printer using USB?

Shall I just turn on the second printer and physically connect it to my laptop using a USB connector?

Hi Chetan,

Your answer was correct.

- I went to the HP Folder and double-clicked "Reconfigure your HP Device".

- I selected "Connect to another HP Device".

- Then selected "Directly connect to this computer using a UCB cable".

- Was then prompted to turn on the printer and connect the USB cable.

The second printer was installed as "HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277 PCL6 (Copy 1)", therefore I am able to distinguish between the 2 printers.

Many thanks for your help.

Alan

PS. It might be helpful to mention what to do when using more than one of the same type of printer in the Getting Started Guide, otherwise people may think they have to re-install the complete printer software for each new printer instead of simply using the Reconfigure Utility.
