Printer was working fine with non-HP toner this morning until it did a firmware update right after a print job and now it is saying there is a color memory error. Tech service call center says nothing that can be done. Is this true? Does the printer now not allow any non-HP toner to be used? This is totally BS. I get that it voids the warranty but it shouldn't keep me from using whatever I want in the printer. This is not an issue with the toner cartridges.

Hi,

You may downgrade the firmware back to the previous verison by following the tool below:

http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=7326587&swItemId=t2_159844_1&swEnvOid=54

Be sure not to interrupt the process till it completes on both the printer screen and the PC.

Thank you! The old firmware worked great and even more ironic, we still had a HP B&W cartridge in there that now does not work with the old firmware reloaded so installed the non-HP cartridge and it works fine. Go figure.
