Hey there CC and welcome to the forum. Which printer are you using? If you provide the model I can help you a little better.
This usually means you need to update your software. Try doing this:
1. Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller and click Continue
2. Highlight your device on the left pane
3. Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall
4. There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
5. Click Continue and let it finish
Now, run a Software Update. This can be done by clicking the Apple in the top left of the screen then clicking Software Updates.
Next, let's reset the printing system:
Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
- Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Default tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
The last step to to download the full feature software pack which you can get from clicking here: Support & Drivers ( I need the model number to give you the exact link)
Let me know how this works!

Hi, I'm having the EXACT same problem for a D110 and officejet 6500.
I am trying to get these printers working on a brand new iMac running 10.7.3.
I have tried everything mentioned here - reset the printing system, deleted all hp software, downloaded the software from HP, and done a software update.
I've even tried to add the D110 as an IP printer using the IP address. I can print a test page just fine, but when I print a document I get "the printer uri is incorrect or no longer exists"
I've searched and searched and searched for a solution! Any help would be so appreciated!!!!!

Hi,
After having spent a few hours deinstalling an re-installing drivers for my HP ENVY (having the same problems you guys describe), I finally tried to use direct HP printing (IP) instead of the Bonjour self discovered printer. Although I cannot tell what the root cause is, my printing is now OK. For the moment I lost the "over-the-air" scanning but I can live with that for a while.
Bottom line: To solve the issue use direct IP printing instead of Bonjour.

Thanks, Tom for the suggestion. I tried that before, and just tried it again. Got a message:
Unable to verify the printer on your network.
I can print to this printer from a Windows Laptop that I use for work.
I did buy a new router this week as well - I haven't set it up, but perhaps that will solve the issue. I needed one regardless for a larger range in my house.
Anyone else have thoughts?
Thanks for reading and the help!

Ok, so just in case someone else runs into this problem. Here's how I fixed it.
I spent 2 hours on the phone with Apple Tech Support. Those guys rock and know how to help customers.
The final option was to reinstall the Operating System which was a REALLY easy deal (I'm not kidding). The new iMacs have a secondary "emergency" drive with the Lion OS on it. I booted to that disk, and reinstalled the OS. No user files were disrupted or moved - it was just a pure OS reinstall.
I reset the printing system again, added my printer, and it worked PERFECTLY.
Apple's support truly rocks - they could have easily sent me to HP, but they didn't. HP would have said it was an Apple problem since all other devices printed to the printer (and they would have been correct). Apple's support folks were professional, polite, patient, and smart folks. These guys were on the East Coast which I really appreciated - there was no language issues at all that you sometimes find with Tech companies.
