C4780 will not print. Printer error: Please turn printer Off and then On

[ Edited ]

Printer:  HP Photosmart C4780 Print.Scan.Copy    Computer: Mac

My printer was working fine and then it stopped working.  I bought it about 6 months ago and do not use it very often (a few pages per month).

Problem:

When I try to print a paper, the printer tells me to "Please turn printer off and then on."

Attempts to solve: Turning printer off and then on;  uninstalled and reinstalled the software;  deleted item from print queue and tried again; checked the inside of the printer for any jams or lose parts but everything looks normal.

Any ideas/suggestions/solutions?

Thanks

How is it connected?  If a network connection, tell me about your network - router brand/model, encryption type (WEP, WPA, etc) and ISP type (DSL, Cable, etc).

What version of OS X?

Computer is hooked up to printer with cable.  (not through network)

It is a new mac so the most recent version.

Re: C4780 will not print. Printer error: Please turn printer Off and then On

OK, first let's reset the printer.  Turn it off, unplug power from the back of the printer and the wall.  Wait a minute or two, plug it all back in and turn it on.

If that does not work, reset the printing system:

- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click the print queue area and select Reset Printing System.
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

I tried both of those options as I said in my original post and I just tried again to no avail.

Any other ideas?

Re: C4780 will not print. Printer error: Please turn printer Off and then On

OK, you said you turned the printer off and on, which is different than a reset.  You also said you deleted the printer and re-added it which is different than a "reset printing system".

If you really did try the two things I suggested, the printer may be defective.  Here is how to contact HP.
