CANNOT SCAN using USB DIRECT CONNECTION between HP Officejet 6210 + Mac OS 10.4

[ Edited ]

Hi there,

I am unable to scan documents from my HP Officejet 6210 into my MacPro via USB direct connection.

MY SETUP:

I've got an HP Officejet 6210 connected to my Airport Extreme, which in turn is connected to my MacPro running OS 10.4.11.

WHAT WORKS:

I can print from the MacPro (OS 10.4.11) that's connected to the Airport Extreme with the Officejet connected to the Airport Extreme's USB port.

WHAT DOES *NOT* WORK

  • I have no success scanning from the Officejet when the MacPro connected to the Airport Extreme which in turn is connected to the Officejet at the end of the chain.
  • I have no success scanning from the Officejet whenthe MacPro is connected directly to the Officejet via USB cable

WHAT HAPPENS:

When I attempt to scan a doc from the Officejet when it is directly connected via USB to the MacPro -- or -- when the Officejet is connected

to the Airport Extreme and then to the MacPro -- and press the "Scan To" button on the Officejet, the following alert reads:

"No Scan Options. You need to install or run device software for feature."

UPDATE:

I have just learned in a post from the very helpful PrintDoc (here) that:

"Airport USB connections do not support scanning".

OVER-RIDING OBJECTIVE:

To be able to scan documents from my HP Officejet 6210 All-In-One into my MacPro (OS 10.4) via USB direct connection.
