I put in the installation CD. I find my printer and try to install the software and drivers. When I click the 'Install' button, nothing happens. I click it repeatedly, and the program goes away. This happens again and again. I tried copying the installation program onto my computer and running it; same thing happens. I tried downloading the drivers from the HP site, and the same thing happens. I am ready to return this thing. I tried emailing tech support but the form is broken. I tried calling Tech Support twice. Got disconnected then was put on hold for 30 minutes. I had to hang up. Also, the 'chat' with tech support doesn't work. I am is getting frustrated.
I would be shocked if anybody could tell me how to fix this problem, but in the interest of science...

Bottom line: If I were you, I would return the printer and buy a different brand.
I had multiple problems with the initial set-up of my C6280, similar luck as yours getting through to tech support; when I finally did talk to someone, it took an hour and 46 minutes on the phone to configure my set-up. The included disk didn't work, the online links were out-of-date or broken. I asked the tech how I could have possibly configured my printer out-of-the-box; she told me that it wouldn't have been possible as the info online was out of date. After my machine crashed and took out the printer drivers, it's never scanned since. Now my printer is two weeks out of warrantee, so there's no free phone support.
The thing drinks ink - no way does my printer get the pages/cartridge that are advertised. For example, for several months I have used only greyscale to print text on regular paper. On medium quality, I have used 2 plus part of a third black ink cartridges and printed less than one ream of paper - advertised is 480-660 pages/cartridge. PLUS, I have to replace the color cartridges. Eventually I get an error message which requires me to replace "empty" colors; I can print a few more B&W pages, but then the printer will not work at all until I replace the "empty" color. No one was ever able to answer my question of why the printer uses color inks to print black when there is also a black cartridge. Oh, and the ink runs even from humidity - it doesn't even have to be wet.
Good Luck!
