Cannot upgrade the firmware with C4580

Just brought the C4580 & try to upgrade the latest firmware in WinXP, but the updater always show the same message "the device you are trying to update is not currently connected or turned on" & asked me to refresh, but refresh don't work, by the way i can print & scan with the printer, and the hardware device manager show both HP Photosmart C4500 on imaging device & HP Photosmart C4500 series (DOT4USB) on usb tab to be properly installed, and browsing with wireless on show the firmware version as WRLxFN0823AR, can anyone help? thanx......

I only did the upgrade over the wireless network when I tested the patch.

 

Is the C4580 connected wirelessly to your home network?  How about our WinXP system?  Is it connected to the network and by USB cable to the printer?  If so, let me suggest unplugging the USB cable, install the printer SW for a network connection and then run the patch program.

I have try to install the update through wireless or usb, but both failed, by the way the software that come with the disc is missing iris ocr software on the windows side but do have iris on the Mac side, & the volume label of the disc is PS_AIO_04_C4500_  just like the full web download version for windows which is also missing the OCR software.....

I don't know if I can be of much more help.

 

Can you print wirelessly?  If so, I might suggest unplugging  the USB connection, deleting the USB print queue (temporarily -- you can add back later) from the printer folder and try one more time to run the patch program.

 

If this fails, your next step is to call HP support (sorry about that).
