Re: Color LaserJet 2600n prints black over all other colors. Running Mac OS 10.6.6

[ Edited ]

Thats how I fixed it before by tearing out drivers from older versions of OS X.  I had it working with Lion and installed the package I made on a 10.6.8 install and it fixed the problem.  Thats the package I had out for download, but it didn't work all the time for some reason.

When I had it working for a short time in Lion I was troubleshooting trying to figure out the problem and messing with that package and  haven't been able to get a work around again.

I know the printer is old, but when the manufacturer has proprietary drivers and usually laser printers lasts for a long long time I espect the manufacturer to help.  We still use HP Laserjet 4000 printers where I work!

I ordered mine on 10/23/06 and still have the original toner cartridges in it.  Paid over $300 for it for home office and its a shame to have to throw it out because of a driver problem that would take an engineer an hour to fix. The same type of printer would be about another $300, so I have to go out and get another printer every 5 years because a simple driver can't be kept up to date?  Actually if its a simple PPD driver there should be no updating or much involved I would assume.

Today I was playing around again and took all the HP packages from the 10.6 disc and 10.6.3 install disc and burned them to a cd.   Installed all the packages from the 10.6 disc and then installed a couple of packges from the 10.6.3 disc and surprisingly was able to print 3 prints without issue.  So hopefully I have the workaround going again.

I'm not sure what would need installed from the 10.6 disc, I would assume just the Laserjet package, but that wasn't enough.  Installed a few others and still no luck so I just installed them all.  Tried mapping the printer and no luck so moved on to 10.6.3 packages....

The 10.6.3 has another HP_Laserjet.pkg but I didn't install that one.  I just installed the other Laserjet package called HP_LaserJetZJS.pkg that actually installs the 2600n driver.

Did those three prints and it worked.  I'm not touching it again, but maybe someone can try and doing the same thing and let us know.  I would assume you only need the HP_Laserjet.pkg from 10.6 disc, but not sure.  Or you just might need teh HP_LaserJetZJS.pkg and thats it but I believe I did that before and the printer wouldn't install, said it was installed wrong or something.  So you may need the HP_Laserjet.pkg and the HP_LaserJetZJS.pkg to complete the install I would assume.  But I tried so many combos over time and not sure.

But the problem is just when you think you have it working the issue crops back up and shows it head again.
