Document scanning with Photosmart C6380 WITHOUT OCR processing?

The Help for HP Scan Pro says to select PDF type - but I don't find an opportunity to do so.

Is your HP software intended for Lion or was it already installed before you upgraded to Lion?

You have a point there - I may have had HP Scan Pro installed before going to Lion.

Is there a Lion version?

If you are using Snow Leopard or Lion and have HP software for pre-Snow Leopard (either from a CD not marked as compatible with 10.6/10.7 or you recently upgraded to Snow Leopard or Lion and had the HP software on your Mac before you upgraded - even if you did a standard uninstall of the old software or installed new software over the top of it) you must uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:

Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall <<<< This IS the Scrubber Option, there is no button labeled "Scrubber"
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish

Restart your Mac

Download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907

Now reset the printing system:

- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I installed Lion about two months ago and the scanner has not been recognized ever since though no probs printing at all. This worked!

I followed your advice and now I have no scanning software at all. 

For HP Photosmart C6380 the update is said in the reference table to include scan support. But it does not.

I had no problems with the printer. I had some problems with scanning. Now I have spent time on solving a non-problem and creating a bigger one.

I am sorry if I missed something.

erikolise,  what version of OS X?  Do you have HP software in your Applicaions folder?

Did you download the software and reset the printing system as described above?

I have OS X version 10.7.3.

I have HP Utility, that is all the link you gave me has installed.

Yes, I downloaded and installed it, after uninstalling with "scrubber" feature. Then reset the printing system.

Printing works fine.

I am now trying to reinstall scan sw from disc.

Now I have reinstalled HP Scan Pro from the original disc. But it "does not find the scanner", i.e. the c6380.

As I understand it does not see the printer as a scanner as well.

As you see from my heading I used to have a combined printer/scanner but I had a problem with scanning without involving OCR scanning. Now I cannot use the scanning feature at all. If you can not give another advice I will now try to reinstall the whole package from disc.

OK, the problem is the CD has software that is not compatible with 10.7.  Scrub the HP software again using the instructions above, then re-download the drivers from the apple.com link I provided.  Do not use the CD with this computer again.

To scan, use Image Capture in your Applications folder.  Select the printer on the left side, then "Show Details" along the bottom then, finally, do an "Overview" scan.
