Hi. Just got an iPad for Christmas - love it! I also have an Officejet 6500 E709n - dearly loved as well. Can I get the 2 to work together???
I fear the answer is no, because...
- E709n is NOT on Apple's web site as a supported printer (tho, HP Officejet 6500A Plus e-AiO is)
and
- Though both printer and iPad are successfully connected to my wireless network, if I try to Print from my iPad, it says, "No Printers Found".
But... Maybe there is a way to upgrade my 6500 to support AirPrint???
Thx for any info / suggestions!

No it does not and no you cannot (reasonably) upgrade your printer. The new 6500A does (E710), but yours does not support AirPrint.
However, it does support HP's iPrint app - free on the App Store. It is more limited than AirPrint, but you can print some stuff.

Hi PrintDoc - When you say "cannot (reasonably) upgrade', do you mean the cost of upgrading is prohibitive or is there some other roadblock?
Thanks

I guess I am pretty pragmatic and realize that virtually anything is possible with some cost. The cost of parts and labor would be many times more than the cost of a new e-printer (a 6500 E710, for example).
I guess I should say it just can't be done because no sane person would do it faced with the expense and hassle. Thanks for keeping me practical.

I can print to it wirelessly with my windows laptops, and my iPad is communicating fine on the same wireless network as the printer and laptops, but iPrint on my iPad says "No printers available". What step am I missing.
Thx again in advance!

Reboot your router, printer and iPad and try again.

About a month ago, I read that a 'firmware update' would be released on Dec 27 to enable HP 6500 E709 printers to print from AiriPrint enabled devices (iPad). I can't find that anywhere. I also read the postings in this thread, and downloaded iPrint Photo (only "iPrint" listed), and when I tried to print a photo, got an error message saying not enough memory available. It's a new iPad, nothing on it yet... am I missing something?
