Dropping Communications with HP C6150 All-In-One and Mac

I'm using a MacBook Pro with latest OS and an HP C6150 All-in-On on a wireless network.  Intermittently, I receive the following message when trying to use the scanner - " Sorry, scanner could not be initialized. (Scanner not found.)"  I am, however, able to print and copy documents.  I've resolved the problem previously by reinstalling the driver, but this is not a long-term solution.

Any help would be most welcomed.  Thanks.

Re: Dropping Communications with HP C6150 All-In-One and Mac

I am having the same problem! I just scanned a photo two days ago with no problems whatsoever, and now an error message comes up when trying to scan... All other wireless connection functions on the printer work just fine. Communication is there, it just won't scan.  NEED HELP PLEASE!!!

Re: Dropping Communications with HP C6150 All-In-One and Mac

I just posted some information on another question that may help. I found that if I uninstall and reinstall the HP software it works. However, it only works until Apple Software Update downloads and installs the HP driver update 1.1.1 . If you go in immediately after reinstalling the HP software and do an IGNORE via Software Update on the HP driver update it seems to fix the problem.

Re: Dropping Communications with HP C6150 All-In-One and Mac

I believe the problems with scanning from your Mac has to do with your wireless-router assigning a different IP address to your printer than the one assigned to the printer when you installed the SW.

There are two ways to fix this.  The first way is to give your printer a static IP address and then to reinstall the SW.

The second way is to get your wireless-router to reserve a DHCP address for your printer and then reinstall the SW.  On many wireless-routers, this feature is known as DHCP Reservation.

There are some details to be careful about.  When assigning a static IP address, make sure the address you're setting in the printer is outside the range of IP addresses that your wireless-router can assign from.  Otherwise, you may end up with duplicate IP addresses on your network.

As for DHCP Reservations, you'll need to know the MAC address of the printer.  You can get this from printing the printer's network configuration page.

I also get the message " Sorry, scanner could not be initialized. (Scanner not found.)" I have been through all the uninstall and reinstall with HP and Apple. Still the same message. The conclusion was that HP had to update its driver to work with 10.5.6. I am awaiting the update.

Re: Dropping Communications with HP C6150 All-In-One and Mac

Hi Myrrhlin

If your printer has a wireless connection to your network then you may be able to access it via your browser?

All you need is the IP addres, then you can use the WebScan tool provided by the printer's web interface... For example if my printer (an L7580) has the IP address  11.1.1.250,  I type

    http://11.1.1.250/

and then choose WebScan from the menu that appears. Its not a great solution but it should get you scanning until the proper solution appears...

Re: Dropping Communications with HP C6150 All-In-One and Mac

I had this problem. HP tells me the scanner is sensitive to electrical power strength. The had me unplug the power cord from the power strip and plug it directly into a wall plug. The problem went away.

Could you please give more specifics on how to fix this problem which seems pervasive.  How does one create the fixed address or make the reservation that you mention are possible fixes.

Re: Dropping Communications with HP C6150 All-In-One and Mac

Many wireless-routers allow you to reserve IP addresses for specific network devices. Doing so prevents the wireless-router from assigning different IP address to devices over time.

What model wireless-router do you have?

Re: Dropping Communications with HP C6150 All-In-One and Mac

It's a linksys SRX200.  Using a Mac 10.5.7, HP C6150 9.7.1 driver.  Please help, you seem to be very knowledgable.  Now with my last install attempt of the driver the installer won't recognize the C6150 during the network setup and entering the linksys IP address doesn't work either.  Thanks.
