Re: Dropping Communications with HP C6150 All-In-One and Mac

Setting DHCP address reservation on your Linksys WRT54GX SRX200 wireless-router isn't that simple. Instead, lets set a static address for your printer.

First off, unplug your Linksys WRT54GX SRX200 for 30 seconds and then plug it back in. Wait two minutes before continuing. This will get your wireless-router into a known state.

I'm assuming you've run the wireless setup wizard from the front panel on your C6150 and that the printer is on your network. If not, press <setup>, scroll down and select Network and then select Wireless Setup Wizard. Follow the prompts to get the printer connected to your network. When you're done, press the cancel button a few times until you get the printer back to its idle screen.

Here are the steps to set a static IP address from the printer's front panel:

  1. Press <setup>
  2. Scroll down and select Network
  3. Select Advanced Setup
  4. Select IP Settings. Press OK to acknowledge the warning.
  5. Select Manual
  6. Select IP Address
  7. Scroll over to the right and change the last group of number to 175. Assuming your wireless-router is mostly in its factory default state, the IP address should read 192.168.1.175. This is outside the range of addresses that your Linksys wireless-router's DHCP server will assign.
  8. Press OK.
  9. Turn the printer off then on from the front panel.

Now let's test the new printer settings. From Safari, select Bookmarks then Show all bookmarks. On the left hand pane, select Bonjour and check that your printer is listed on the right. Double click on the printer and Safari should open up the printer's internal web page.

Next, open Print & Fax under System Preferences. Delete all instances of the C6150 and then try reinstalling the SW on your Mac. If you're still having trouble, you might consider resetting your Mac's print system (see this link). Careful -- resetting the print system will delete all printers from your Mac.

Re: Dropping Communications with HP C6150 All-In-One and Mac

So I have done everything that you suggested but I can't test the scanning function because whenever I open up the HP photosmart studio it hangs, I have to force quit it to stop the daisy wheel from spinning continously and the force quit says the Photosmart studio is not responding.  I have reinstalled the 9.7.1 software several times, deleted any HP preferences I could find in the library, and run the disk utility as well.  Help!

(PS thank you for the instructions on setting the manual IP address - very clear....Now I wish the photosmart studio would work so I can test the scanning.  Printing is just fine wirelessly).

Re: Dropping Communications with HP C6150 All-In-One and Mac

I had these same problems and solved it by reinstalling the HP provided drivers. I solved the problem permanently by not allowing the the Apple HP printer drivers to update my system. There is something wrong with the HP drivers provided by Apple. You can fix it by unchecking the HP printer updates during the Apple OS software updates.

Good -- the printer is on the network and you can print. Now let's try to getting scanning to work.

I know you've tried re-installing the driver without success. Have you tried manually uninstalling the SW by running the HP Uninstaller from:

/Applications/Hewlett-Packard

before re-installing the SW?

I forgot to mention that you should always us the HP uninstaller to remove the all the old HP software before you reinstall the drivers.

Re: Dropping Communications with HP C6150 All-In-One and Mac

I've used the HP uninstaller each time I've attempted a re-install which I have now done at least SIX times (argh).  I also cleaned out preferences and used the disk utility to verify and repair permissions.  I still can't use the photosmart studio because of the hanging - hence can't use the scanning function.

Re: Dropping Communications with HP C6150 All-In-One and Mac

I believe the C6150 has the ability to scan from the printer's internal web-page interface.

Does this work on your setup?

Re: Dropping Communications with HP C6150 All-In-One and Mac

I'm now using the device manager instead of the photosmart studio and it seems to work.  I also dumped all the previously scanned items in the scanner output folder (thinking one might be corrupted) and now the photosmart studio seems to be working but I only tested it with one item.  Thanks for all your help.  You're great!

Re: Dropping Communications with HP C6150 All-In-One and Mac

I solved the scanning problem on my C4580, running wireless for printing, by connecting printer my MacBookPro with an ethernet cable when scanning.

Re: Dropping Communications with HP C6150 All-In-One and Mac

I'm using a 6310 and am having similar porblems.
I can print copy fax, but I cannot scan!
I have remove the software using the uninstaller and reinstalled it, then did the update OJ6300_v9.7 that I got from the HP website.

Still no luck.

I do recall having done the Apple update.

My original install disc has a lot of errors when I try to instal it, but the update installed with no problems.

What can I do?
