Duplex printing not possible?

I upgraded to Mac OS 10.6.1.

Then I purchased a C309a AIO printer. The printer is connected to my imac by USB cable.

I downloaded all the latest drivers and installed them.

Everything works perfectly - EXCEPT duplex printing.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the software; changed settings everywhere I can think of, including the CUPS. I spent more than an hour with HP Mac support on the phone.Eventually the support person said it's an Apple problem. I called Apple. They laughed me off the line - very helpful!

In File/Print dropdown menu both "Collated" and "Two-sided" are checked. In CUPS at http://localhost:631/printers/HP_Photosmart_C309a_series, under "Two-sided Printing" "Print Both Sides: Longoedge binding" has been set as the default.

I still cannot print on both sides of the paper.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having exactly the same problem. Instead of duplex printing, my C309a prints the 2nd page upside down to another sheet of paper. Is there a solution out there? Mac OS 10.6.1

Me too.  I just installed the latest everything today and duplex printing from my mac isn't working.  Two-sided copying works fine, however, so I can rule out a hardware problem.  I can select two-sided options, but it doesn't run the paper through the duplexer (and grabs a new sheet each side).  It does print in alternating directions...yippee.

I downloaded the current full driver from hp and during installation some apple thing popped up and downloaded *something*...this step/action wasn't mentioned in the hp mac installation guide.  Then later, after I discovered duplex printing wasn't working, I ran software update which installed more hp driver updates to no avail.

I also tried setting two-sided printing as the default in CUPS (http://localhost:631).  No change.  In fact now CUPS is telling me that the default "Basic" Photo Fix option and my "Fast Draft" Quality setting (default was Automatic) are in conflict and it won't let me change either one to anything else...oh joy.

HP, APPLE, SUMWUN...HALP!

I am having the same problems since upgrading to Snow Leopard with an HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 wireless printer. All is working well except I no longer have duplex printing as an option in my print menus. I have downloaded the latest driver and updates from Apple with no change. Very frustrating. I had hope someone on the forum had a solution. I guess we have to wait for HP or Apple to solve the issue.

Maybe even skip the reset printing system part first and try just the remove/re-add.  Good Luck

See my post today about 8500 All-in-one.  It has to do with whether you are using native Mac software or third-party vendor software.  I detailed how to choose duplex printing with third party vendor software (Word for Mac, Adobe Reader, etc.)  With the latest fixes in Apple updates (which included some HP driver updates that I got today) and the latest Snow Leopard version of driver online from HP, it seems these issues are fixable, but not pretty.  Hope this helps.

Me too... Initial install (from disk) on leopard showed duplex option.... since then I accessed the printer via network from another (snow leopard) and it wouldn't show duplex no matter what I tried... maybe I re installed the leopard printer but in any case now both don't show duplex (nor draft print option, just standard).  

I tried resetting the printers and no help there... pain in the butt.

I am having the same problem with a 2355 all in one with snow leopard 10.6. Contacted HP, downloaded drivers, generic drivers etc. Still no joy.
