Enable Scan to Computer - Communication Error

From MacBook Pro MAC OS X 10.7.1 Lion, enabling "Scan to Computer" to scan from printer HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A Premium, I receive the following error:

Communication Error

Unable to communicate with device. Check cables and connection settings.

If problem persists, try restarting your computer and HP device.

I have restarted both computer and printer with no change.

I can print and scan with no issues.

Please help.

I've having same issue.  I uninstalled everything and rebooted everything.  Still didn't work.

Hi.

I am helping a friend with a OJ7500a-e910n.

We had to download the latest OSX drivers today (1/5/2012) as the drivers on the CD would not load.

No errors occured during installation, and we can print and PULL SCANS from the printer, but we get the communication error when we try to enable the scan to pc option.

OSX version is 10.7.2

HP drivers are v3.3.3 (again, downloaded TODAY, from the drivers download page for this printer).

Pushing scans to another, older MAC notebook works flawlessly using the drivers on the CD that came with the printer.

There may be an option in the HP software to enable scan from printer.  Look for it and let me know.

Where do I find this on a Mac? (I'm a windoze person <g>. The option I tried is under system preferences for the scanner.

It varies by printer and I don't have a printer like yours to play with, sorry.

Open Finder and check in the Applications > Hewlett-Pacard > [your printer model] folder

Ten years later...

Found what appeared to be the HP utility, but it seems to have opened the default MAC utility and it still fails.

I don't have the info handy, but on another macbook in the household with an older version of the OS, it worked properly.

Any thoughts?

My preference is to scan FROM the Mac, anyway.  Use Image Capture in your Applications folder.

We want to be able to PUSH from the printer TO the computer (Like we can on a slightly older Macbook).

We can ALREADY PULL...

Anything useful to add that will help FIX the Problem?
