Error message for printer (PSC 1350) with Mac 10.6.8

Hello,

I love my PSC 1350 (had it since 2003) so I hope someone can help me with this issue. The all-in-one works great with my 2006 Mac laptop, which is currently running 10.5.8, but started with an earlier operating system. Recently, I plugged the all-in-one into my mother's 10.6.8 iMac and before I had added any software, the printer was functioning. When I tried scanning, however, nothing worked so I installed the original software from 2003 and the scanner started working. I tried printing after having installed the software and kept receiving a simple, "Error" message in the print queue window.

I followed the seven or eight steps on HPs website for troubleshooing, all to no avail. I even removed the software to see if the printer would work again as it had when I first plugged it in. Nothing. However, when plugged back into my laptop, it works (printer and scanner).

Any ideas?????

-Lillis

Re: Error message for printer (PSC 1350) with Mac 10.6.8

Hello Lillis,

The Original software installation is not intended for Mac OS 10.6.

By reading your notes, it seems like you have already removed the software and it is currently not presented on the OS.

Please reset the Printing System by entering System Preferences > Print & Fax, right click (CTRL+left click from the Mac keyboard) the Printers background ares, then click Reset Printing System.

Officially, Only printing is supported for any Mac OS version above 10.5, it may worth trying to install the Mac OS 10.5 version (Released at 2007), however no guarantees. You may download the software below:

Re: Error message for printer (PSC 1350) with Mac 10.6.8

Thanks for trying - I just did as you suggested and the Error message is still there. The strangest part of all of this is that when the printer was FIRST plugged into the computer, it worked without any issue. It was when I wanted to scan (and therefore loaded the old software) that the error message started appearing.

Also, FYI, the scanning function works on this 10.6.8 operating system. Didn't you say it should only be able to print?

I suppose this means my printer is defunct with the newer Mac. Sigh.

Re: Error message for printer (PSC 1350) with Mac 10.6.8

Well, actually the information is a bit unclear..

A Full Software is not available from the HP Site but only a printing driver.

However, a limited scanner driver is available by Apple Software Update - available by using either Image Capture or Preview (both available under Applications) as you can see listed below:

(Taken from the Apple Software Update compatibility list)

Try scanning by any of those Apps, If it fails - click the Apple icon and then click Software Update and make sure to install the latest HP Printer Software Update which include ICA scnner drivers as well

(ICA reffers to the OS scanner engine, which will let you scan by using the applications mentioned above).

If there is still no change, remove the printer from Print and Fax and fully remove the HP software currently installed:

**Please be aware that performing the next steps will remove any installed HP Software.

1. Click on Go menu (Click the desktop, then look at the menu in the bar at the top of the page)
2. Select Applications
3. Select the Hewlett-Packard folder
4. Double-click HP Uninstaller application
5. Follow the uninstallation till prompted to select a device to uninstall
6. Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall
7. approve any prompt to uninstall any HP Software.

Then click the Plus sign under Print & Fax. the driver will download from Applu Software Update.

If it fails for any reason, install the entire update below and then add your printer - it should provide you scan capabilities:
