I just bought HP 6500A Plus printer. So far everything appears to be working OK except for the HP Utility. I get the following message: Incompatible components - Some components installed on your computer were developed for another version of HP Utility. These components will not be loaded and some functionality related to your device will not be accessible. Please click HP Support item on the toolbar to visit HP Online Support site and download the latest versions of HP software."
The utility won't open and there is also no fax log. I had no fax log with my previous printer HP Officejet J4680 and someone told me to download a Mac update which corrected the fax log. It worked for my J4680, but I don't know if it will work for this printer. My printer is listed. I can't remember where I downloaded it from. Or is there something else causing this?
I was told that I should be receiving HP updates, but since I have had this computer (1 Year) I have never received any notice of updates from HP. How can this be corrected?
I have a Macmini running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

If you are using Snow Leopard or Lion and have HP software for pre-Snow Leopard (either from a CD not marked as compatible with 10.6 or you recently upgraded to Snow Leopard or Lion and had the HP software on your Mac before you upgraded - even if you did a standard uninstall of the old software or installed new software over the top of it) you must uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall <<<< This IS the Scrubber Option, there is no button labeled "Scrubber"
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
Restart your Mac
Now reset the printing system:
- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

I will be uninstalling all my printers? I have my new printer HP 6500A Office Jet, HP PhotoSmart D7560 and HP Office Jet J4680. Since my J4680 is broken I should reinstall the HP6500A and the PhotoSmart. Right? Just making sure. For the HP6500A should I use the CD or download the driver from the web?
OK, here goes. I hope everything works.

Well, you do not have to reset the printing system, but do everything else. Instead of resetting the printing system, click the old instance of the 6500A and click the '-' sign at the bottom of the list, then re-add it with the '+' sign.
When you can, avoid using CDs for software. Go to the manufacturer's site for the latest. Get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.

Should I do the same witth the PhotoSmart? Click the old instance of the D7560 and click the '-' sign and then re-add it with the '+' sign?
