HP C4580 Photosmart won't print .pdf files

Using a MacBook Pro, I can print anything using Pages, Numbers, Safari.  But when trying to print a .pdf file I can't get anything printed.  Instead I get an error message of:  "Opening Printer Connection Failed:  Unable to open the printer connection.  Please check your printer connections and check for printer errors."

But I have no errors.  And, again, I can print all sorts of other things, just not this or other .pdf files.

Ideas?

I am having the EXACT same problem, but with a C5500 series....     It's a HUGE issue.  Uninstall/reinstall doesn't help.

Well, through trials and errors, I did find a way to do it.  Hit PRINT, then hit ADVANCED, and then check the box that says PRINT AS IMAGE.  Then it worked for me.  It seems odd that printing is impossible without such a convoluted way of doing it.
