HP Deskjet 1050 with Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Hey guys~

I’m at my wit’s end and I would like to ask if any of you guys can help me out with my Scanner problem. ;___;

I am using a Macbook Pro (Mac OS X 10.6.8) with a HP Deskjet 1050 Printer / Scanner. I am able to print things but not scan them which makes it difficult for me to document both my personal and school works.

It’s been like this since Mac introduced it’s 10.6 Update and it seems that I wasn’t the only one who had problems with my scanner. There was something with the new OS that didn’t sit well with so many other printers that a lot of people were in a frenzy. That was last year in December.

I tried again and update around earlier this month since they said that the problem was fixed and so many people started to regain their usage of the scanners and printers. For me, only my printer works but not the scanner part. ;__;

I’ve tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers but it never seems to work. My laptop doesn’t want to detect it and whenever I open my Scanning Program, it immediately shuts down.

Q__Q I-I would appreciate any help I can get~ I’ve serached forums, troubleshoot articles, FAQs but nothing seems to work so I was wondering if any of you guys can help. It would help me tremendously if that is so~

How is the printer connected?

Download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907

Reset the printing system:

- Go to System Preferences > Print & Fax
- Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Restart your Mac and then try to scan.

I have this same problem and have tried all the remedies suggested, but they have all not worked.  I am updated on all hp and apple softwares, downloaded and installed the driver, reset and added my printer again, restarted numerous times.  I did notice there is a critcal update for Mac OS X 10.7 in regards to this scanning problem.  Is there one for the 10.6.8?

Do you have HP software in your Applications folder?  Is it just a scanning problem, can you print?  Have you scanned from Image Capture in the Applications folder?

I am having problems with my scanner. I'm about to return this printer because I bought so I could scan! I can print and scan to print by pressing either scan buttons but I cannot scan something to my hardrive using the software. It quits unexpectedly every time. I've downloaded "the latest software" about 5 times now and tried everything on these forums and nothing works. Someone help me or this is going back.

Have you scanned using Image Capture in your Applications folder?

How is the printer connected?  If wireless, what router?

It works with Image Capture! Thanks! So basically the scanner software that came with it will never work?

No, it just has a bug right now.  An update is coming to fix it.

I followed everything you said ! Downloaded the patch, all 600+mb's installed it, reset my printer and added it back, rebooted as well as turned off the printer and turned it back on but no worky...

So I'd be just tickeled pink to give you Kudos but it didn't work! Now What?
