In my case I had a second copy of the HP software on another drive. After I deleted all HP Software on all drives, I installed the update for OS 10.6.8 (refered to in the earlier posts), and everything started working just fine.
Hope this helps!

If I use this process to install drivers for Mac OS X 10.6.8, will I be able to save my other printers I use as this is a work computer that I use at home as well?

I am NOT an expert here but what I do know about Apple Computer and it's OS is there is not a mountain of issues you have to deal with finding drivers, installing new peripherals and the like that you do when dealing with an IBM /Windows type platform. In most cases all you have to do is simply connect your device and the Operating System either already has the needed interface or it will go find it when it needs something it doesn't already have.
You have made a wise decision going to Apple for your computer! You will find it's somewhat different but normally it's learning curve is easy.
