HP 1020 (xxx224 driver) stopped again + solution

OK

Up until Thanksgiving week, it worked, then stopped working (via Airport Extreme Base Station), but I got it going again (all using driver xxx224) . . .

if your wireless printing setup stops working, then

1) plug the usb cable directly into your Mac . . . Add the 1020 with the xxx224 driver

2) did a system reboot, but not sure if it was necessary

3) move usb cable back to the wireless base . . . Add the 1020 again (delete the usb printer first, if you like this helped so as to avoid duplicate name confusion)

It Works!

Re: HP LaserJet 1020 and Snow Leopard please

Yes I now have double sided printing working on my 1022 with Snow Leopard. I have 10.6.2 and use the HP laserjet 1022 driver version 1.2.0

RedKen,  did it work off the bat for you?  I have the same set up you have listed below but two sided option is grayed out.

Re: HP LaserJet 1020 and Snow Leopard please

If I recall I had to "remove" the printer and then "re-add" it. Other than that, yes it did

Re: HP LaserJet 1020 and Snow Leopard please

Any more updates from users with Mac OS 10.6.2 and the x.x.224 driver?  Has this combination helped with USB and/or Airport printing?

New driver seems to be working here.

And just when I got used to the Snow Leopard way of scanning HP released new software for my Photosmart.

Re: HP LaserJet 1020 and Snow Leopard please

No joy.  I've been at 10.6.2 for a while and the x.x.224 driver arrived via the Apple Software Update.  I decided to give it a try: removed my lj1022n (connected via ethernet/bonjour) that was using the Gutenprint driver (which worked, but with a few small annoyances) from the list of printers.  Added back the 1022n with the new x.x.224 driver.  Same problem of not printing even numbered pages (just sends out blank paper).  I'd been waiting for an HP update figuring that they'd fix the problem: Not!

Poking around the various threads, I found someone had success with an old driver (from 2006?!).  See

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=Macintosh&message.id=4599&query.id=8565 from Cytokrom_C on 11-2-2009.

I downloaded the package, installed the driver, did the "remove, then add" step selecting the old driver.  After a couple tests: it prints multiple pages and it prints two-sided (manually, of course).

The old driver worked!   I saw it on that site when I downloaded it from HP but figured it was so old (well as far as software is concerned) it wouldn't work!

Re: HP LaserJet 1020 and Snow Leopard please

Yeh, your advice works good ! I installed the Apple support for HP printers.

The installation finished well for me. After I reboot my MAC and I found in printer Hp LaserJet 1020.

I selected the driver for Hp LaserJet 1022 1.2.0.224 (the only without gutprinter) and serendipity It has been working !!

Thank you very much for your advice !!!

I post my configuration:

MacBook 2.26 Ghz, 4 Gb Ram, Snow Leopard 10.6.2. I've kept it upgraded.

Bye!

Re: HP LaserJet 1020 and Snow Leopard please

p_andrea_2000,

From what I understand, you installed the 1.2.0.224 driver (the latest from HP and provided for Snow Leopard) and it worked.  If that is indeed so, then I don't deserve any thanks.  I did this and *it did not work*.  What worked for me, and has for others, is installing a very old driver -- not the one currently being provided by HP/Apple.  See my earlier post.
