HP LaserJet CM1415 MAC 10.6.8 - printer using to much ink - Adjust preferences in MAC?

Hi! Hope you can help....

We are going through our black ink cartridges in a months time! (Approx 1845 pages according to printer) With my PC at home I'd set the quality to run on "proof" and I'd be off. Unfortunately with my MAC and all the programs I use regularly it's not that simple. Is there somewhere I can set a "proof" like quality to blanket all programs or do I have to go into each program individually?

I am currently using on a regular basis:

Photoshop CS5

InDesign CS5

Acrobat Pro 9

Word 2008

Excel 2008

We are printing documents for proofing purposes mostly. I need my proofreader to be able to read the text or ads without eyestrain.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,

Thanks for the post.  You can go into the printer properties and set the quality there.  I've attached a link below that should help with this issue.  Good Luck!

Thanks for replying!

The screen shot and preferences window shown is of a PC (I believe) and not a MAC. I cannot find a window that will bring all of those adjustments up. Can you help me find a way on a MAC to adjust the preferences of the printer. I've also gone into each of my programs I print from to try to find "print quality" and am having no luck.

UG - please don't give up :smileyhappy:

Re: HP LaserJet CM1415 MAC 10.6.8 - printer using to much ink - Adjust preferences in MAC?

Hello again,

You are correct, the screen shot is for a windows OS, but I didn't have a document available that showed these steps for MAC.  I just wanted to give you an idea of what they looked like and the options that you have.

With the MAC, open an app. (say Word for instance)  create or find a document, hit file/print, choose presets, that will get you to the area you need to change ink settings (draft in this case) then click save as, this will allow you save this setting for ANY application you want to print from, for instance Safari, hit file/print, look for your save preset and it will print using the settings that you save in word.  Nice touch APPLE!  This preset will affect all of your apps. globally.  I hope this helps....Good Luck!

Re: HP LaserJet CM1415 MAC 10.6.8 - printer using to much ink - Adjust preferences in MAC?

Here's a screen shot of the 2008 Word for Mac printing preferences. This is the only place I can find that reduces the ink output. I've had the printer set on this since we purchased it. We've gone though one black ink cartridge since 1-3-12 printing out approx 1850 pages.

The print preferences do not hold for the adobe programs which is what I'm printing from 90% of the time. Looks like I have to go into each program and set those up individually. Still trying to figure out "what" to adjust in those settings to reduce ink volume. Do you have any buzz words you'd recommend I look for? Draft quality is no where in site.

Here's a copy of my printing preferences in InDesign. Do you see anywhere I can adjust the output of ink...

Re: HP LaserJet CM1415 MAC 10.6.8 - printer using to much ink - Adjust preferences in MAC?

Hello,

Thats strange, they should be located in:  File/Print/(make sure your printer is selected here)/presets/plain paper fast.  You can also choose file/print/copies and pages/advanced print options/ink volume (adjust here)

Adobe - I did find this information:

In Mac OS, you must configure the Adobe PDF printer in three places: Distiller, your authoring application’s Page Setup menu, and your authoring application’s Print dialog box.

  1. In Distiller, specify the Adobe PDF settings, font locations, and security.
  2. In an authoring application such as Adobe InDesign, choose File > Page Setup.
  3. Select Adobe PDF 8.0 from the Format For menu.
  4. Specify the paper size, orientation, and scale as necessary.
  5. In your authoring application, choose File > Print, and select Adobe PDF 8.0 from the Printer menu.
  6. In the pop-up menu below the Presets menu, choose PDF Options, and set any of the following options:
    • Select a set of predefined conversion settings from the Adobe PDF Settings menu if you want to override default settings. Default settings are the settings currently defined in Distiller.

    • Specify whether to open the converted files in Acrobat in the After PDF Creation menu.

  7. Specify print settings as desired in the other menus available in the pop-up menu below the Presets menu.

Sorry,

I meant to include this link for ADOBE, great information!  (You are getting a raise for this right?)
