HP LaserJet P1009 and OSX 10.6

Since upgrading to OS X 10.6 a couple of months ago my HP P1009 printer has failed to work, there are many posts around with Apple, HP etc. and having just spoken to Apple support it ended with "You will have to wait until HP produce a 10.6 driver for the P1009".   The Mac see's the printer but when it attempts to print anything the Print job manager just raises an error.  I have tried the latest driver (although HP say it's only certified for 10.5 and Apple are sticking to that being the issue), and also the various posted fixes such as remove printer, re-add, rebuild print lib files etc.

I know the printer works from the Mac as I can print (sadly for an Apple fan) from Vista via VMWare from the same Mac.

Can anyone tell me why this printer is generally not listed for a driver (its a shared driver with other P100x models), and also IF a driver is available or will be produced for this printer for OS X 10.6 ?

Hi,

Unfortunately not, I contacted Apple who told me to contact HP.  HP were helpful and stated that " I regret to inform you that LaserJet P1009 software is not yet  released for Mac 10.6(Snow Leopard). The software which you had installed for Mac 10.5 is not compatible with Mac 10.6. Our technicians are working on this and very soon we will be releasing the LaserJet P1009 printer software for Mac 10.6. We sincerely appreciate your patience and please accept my apologies."

Thanks for the post as it has prompted me to ask HP again as this was received from them on 3 Nov, 2009 !

As an update I contacted HP again and they now stated that as my printer was just out of warranty they couldn't help, even though I asked the question months ago when it was in warranty !

This is completely poor and unnaceptable service by HP.

So I guess if you have a HP printer and OS X 10.6, and no driver as in HP 1009, the answer seems to be buy a new printer, I would suggest based on experience, go for a Cannon.
