I have upgraded to Mac OS 10.7.2 and installed the necessary drivers for my Laserjet 1022 to respond. But when trying to print double-sided in concertina fashion (manual feed to print second side), the connection is lost and only restores by switching the printer off and then on again.
Also (on occasion), the lights on the printer flash in sequence indefinitely and the printer fails to respond until it's switched off and on.
Solutions will be much appreciated.

Hi CGHW,
Please clarify which software been used to install your device:
A Full Feature Softwre is not available from HP Site, the drivers available from Apple Software Update.
If you used any software downloaded from HP site, make sure to remove it bu running the HP Uninstaller located under Applications > HP Laserjet folder.
Then follow the steps below to configure your printer:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&
If you cannot locate any HP folder, simply try updating the drivers by clicking hte Apple Menu and then Software Update.
If the problem still occours, please let me know the current printer driver version.
You may locate it by entering Print & Scan, double click the print queue and enter the Setup tab - you will find the driver version listed there.
If my post resolved your problem, please mark it as as Accepted Solution

Thanks for this. The trouble persists.
I think my current driver's the right one: version 1.3.0.261.
Perhaps I should explain that my problem relates to printing out music from Sibelius 7 which is why I am wanting to print double-sided in concertina fashion. Could the trouble in some way be related to the programme rather than the computer/printer link?
But even printing out a simple Word document, sometimes all the lights flash on the printer. 'Trouble-shooting' reassures you that it's a cleaning ritual, but that's clearly not the case because it continues indefinitely, and you can only print again by turning the printer off and then on again.
I'd appreciat your further thoughts.
Thanks a lot.

This has been a known problem to HP for the several past years since 10.6 or even 10.5 (e.g. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Mac-Printing-and-Scan
HP refrains from solving those issues for unknown reasons. Most likely they play the bet, that at a certain level of frustration the user will give up and buy a new printer (then hopefully from a different brand, with better customer support).
The Gutenprint drivers (http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/9055/gutenprint) do bring back basic functionality, but issues persist.
Interestingly HP Laserjet 1022 is listed under the supported printers on Apples Website: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#HP
I tested the latest (as os 17th feb 2012) Apple HP Printer Drivers 2.8. HP Drivers for the HP LaserJet 1022 are v1.3.0.261 and they don't work.
I seriously wonder where the HP official ShlomiL gets his facts from. It is simply not correct. And I can't believe that after several hundred posts on Apple Discusions and here on the forum HP is not aware that there is an issue with this printer.

HP is looing customers. Hmm, how can that be, now that they have the worst customer support imaginable and no working drivers for their products?
Seems, I am not the only one fed up with this behavior.
