HP Laserjet P2055dn on MacOS 10.6 missing duplex option

The loss of appletalk on MacOS 10.6 forced me to get rid of my trusty and very old LaserJet and replace with a p2055dn. The most attractive feature was duplex printing. I've installed it, updated the drivers, and can print just fine. The problem is that the two-sided option is nowhere to be seen in the print dialogues for Word2008 or Acrobat, though it is for Safari. How do I enable that option to show up for all applications. MSWord and Acrobat are the most important apps to have access to duplex printing.

Please add my name to the list.  I purchased the p2055dn yesterday based on good reviews.  I have the same experience with the duplex printing in that it seems to work fine with the Apple software (mail and Safari) but the duplex option is not there for other programs.  I have also made sure that i have the latest version of the printer drivers and firmware.

I use this on a home network that has Windows computers on the network and the duplex option is available in the Windows version of Word and Acrobat.

Short term solution is to log into the MacOS CUPS and set duplex as the default. 

http://localhost:631/printers will get to to the interface.

Select the printer

Under the Administration pop-up, select "Set Default Options"

Click on "General"

and then on Duplex, select Flip on long side

that will cause everything to be printed duplex. In the applications that show the duplex setting, you'll see it auto-checked, and you can de-select it. In Word and Acrobat, you're committed to duplex

OK duplex options now appearing in print dialog for Word and Acrobat

I think the key is after installing the driver updates, reboot.

Then, the option will appear in the Layout option of the print dialog (make sure you have the options fully expanded)

Alas! I tried following your instructions, but couldn't find a button/tab marked Set Default Options. I am a mac user and my HP LaserJet P2055dn is refusing to print double sided from Word, Preview and Safari. Help!
