Ok so I have an HP OfficeJet 6500 e709n wireless printer, which i'm using from my mac. Whenever I go to print something, it shows up in the print queue but says "looking for printer" and never prints, until I go to the printer itself and turn it off and on again. Anyone else have this problem? Please help! *Also I'm running snow leopard* ![]()

From where did you get the software for your printer? Also, tell me about your network - router brand/model, encryption type (WEP, WPA, etc) and ISP type (DSL, Cable, etc).

I'm using the software that came with snow leopard for the printer. The router is a Netgear, WPN824 v2. The encryption type is WEP and the ISP type is cable.

So, you did not install the software from the printer CD? Good. If you did, that is your problem and we will have to take special steps to thoroughly uninstall it.
Have you tried to reset the printing system?:
- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
If this does not work, download this printer update from Apple.

I did both of those, and it still does the same thing "look for printer".

OK, it is still not clear to me if you installed the HP printer software from the printer box's CD or not. I'll assume you did. Remove it in this special way:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
Now, run a Software Update.
Next, remove and re-install the printer in System Preferences, Print & Fax.
You do not need the software now since Snow Leopard has both print & scan drivers built-in. Scan from Preview or Image Capture apps. Scanning from the front panel of the printer does not yet work.

In other words you NEVER installed the hp software from the printer box's CD? If you EVER did and even uninstalled it, the standard uninstaller does not remove components in your Mac that will cause this sort of thing.
Try rebooting the printer and router (and your Mac).

Hey Distinguished Professor - you rock. Please help me too.
Just installed it this morning and I am scanning wirelessly just fine and I printed the test page and I shut everything off and back on again and I keep getting "printer if offline". Any thoughts?

Same questions - what version of OS X? If 10.6, did you ever install the software from the printer's CD?
