MBurns2. Not sure who you are directing your question to, but as far as I know driver updates that are available will generally come to you throught the OS X Software Update service. Beyond that, if you installed the extra (and non-essential) HP software that too will come through the system updates or you get to them through the HP support page for your printer. However, it appears that in order for the "Scan To Netork Location" that is no longer available under Lion HP needs to provide a firmware update. This is NOT a driver issue, despite repeated suggestions to the contrary by HP people. And to the best of my knowledge, not only has HP not developed a firmware upgrade for prior models but none of the current models support the feature either, with no indication that they intend to do anything about the situation.

I don't fully understand your explanation but I do know that I can't get rid of presets that aren't useful and, most of all, I can't choose to print in black and white only if I don't want color.

You shouldn't need to download driver. But if you do, go to http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html, select "Drivrs and Software", then just follow the prompts. Before you reinstall the new drivers, you might want to delete the printer from the system, then restart the computer. The only reason I can think of at the moment as to why you can't choose to print black only would be corrupted drivers or settings that might prevent it.

You shouldn't have to do anything other than go into the printer option, select the plus-sign to add it, the wait a few seconds and it should pop up. Once you select the printer the drivers should automatically install.

I purchased my HP 8500A in Office Works.  At no point did any assistant ask me what computers I would be connecting my new printer to.  Neither did anyone inform me that there was no software to run on Mac 10.7 Lion system software.  They happily scanned the box and took the money though.  That they did do very efficiently.  I think it irresponsible of both companies to have something on sale without a caveat to those MANY customers who have Mac computers running the latest software.

Yes I can get it to work in the way you mention but why should I have to use this clunky workaround to operate your latest and greatest?  I should have a nice HP scan or utility icon on my menu bar waiting to fire your flagship up with a single click. 

Now I note your last answer as to the timeframe of aforementioned icon as "soon"  When is soon?  Is that next week, next month or next year ?

How did you get it scan? I have to use Preview. (10.7.4 and OfficeJet Pro 8500 wireless). I cannot however print envelopes anymore.

Recently installed MacOS Lion on laptop and now cannot connect with HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A wireless printer.
