HP Officejet j6480 will not print via USB.

The printer will print a test page and scans okay, but will not print via USB.

What version of OS X?  Is the printer plugged directly into your Mac, not through a USB hub?

"What version of OS X?"

10.6.8.   Mac is a MacBookPro.

" Is the printer plugged directly into your Mac, not through a USB hub?"

I've tried both. Directly into my Mac now.

Re: HP Officejet j6480 will not print via USB.

Download and install this: support.apple.com/kb/DL907

Reset the printing system:

- Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
- Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Re: HP Officejet j6480 will not print via USB.

Let's reset the printer.  With it ON, unplug power from the back of the printer for 30 seconds.  Plug back in and turn on.

Re: HP Officejet j6480 will not print via USB.

OK, turn the printer off.  Hold the # and 6 keys while and for a few seconds after, turning it back on.

Re: HP Officejet j6480 will not print via USB.

Thanks for persisting on this file.  I tried turning it off and then holding down the # and 6 while turning it back on and for a few seconds after.

Re: HP Officejet j6480 will not print via USB.

Try the same reset but use the # and 9 keys.  This is a hard reboot of the printer.  If done properly, the printer front panel should indicate that it has been reset.
