Are you using 10.6? If you had HP software in you Applications folder, did you try the scrubber uninstall as listed in message 2 above?

I'm waiting to see what works for fallingthrough before I attempt anything (I'm a neophyte). Am using my old 6110 until then and I don't want to cause problems with that one.
What can I do about that irritating HPSmartX window that keeps popping up?

yep did the scrubber...
no HP apps anywhere now...
this should be easy right?
it was working fine until i got my mac fixed....

If you scrubbed the HP software you should re-download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907

yep scrubbed downloaded installed... still no printer

If your Mac still does not see your printer on USB then there is either something very wrong with the printer or your Mac. Can you see other USB devices? Have you switched cables?

well
i'm going to go with printer, i tried hooking it to my 2 laptops (one macbook, the other sony) via usb and nothing
not recognised nothing...
which is odd becuase it was working fine before i brought my mac in
how it could randomly just up and quit on me after being turned off and dorment for less than a week.....
beyond me.
