HP Photosmart 6180 Wireless Scanning Problems Leopard Mac OSX 10.5.5

Aaaarrrgghhhhh, I feel like pulling my hair out! I have the above mentioned all in one HP device and since upgrading to leopard i'm having countless problems scanning. I'm using the latest HP driver (ver 9.7.1) but the HP Photosmart Studio keeps crashing when trying to scan. I have sometimes been able to resolve the issue by uninstalling all the drivers and reinstalling them again which majority of the time results in everything being ok for a few days or weeks. However today i'm encountering the same problem so i've reinstalled the drivers again but this time it's still not working. I have a Macbook running Tiger and it used to work fine on that as a fail safe but when i press scan on the HP6180 it's not giving me a choice of device anymore either. For example it used to give me the option to either scan to Bert's Imac or Bert's MacBook. Somebody help me with this dratted problem, I'm desperately trying to scan some wedding material and it's driving me nuts!

I have also just purchased a Photosmart C5380 which is connected directly by USB, I bought this as it can print direct to cd's which it does brilliantly. However i'm having scanning problems again. When i ask it to scan from the printer menus it says "Try starting scan from computer. Refer to documentation for details."? So i try going into Photosmart studio and choosing the device and it keeps defaulting to the Photosmart 6180 in the bedroom even though i've changed the device in device manager? HP make fantastic products but why can't they finally sort this driver problem out for Mac users running Leopard? I had no problems when using Tiger. I've searched the web and there are 100's of people experiencing similar situations. Sort it out HP or you will be losing a lot of business. Your products are sold and promoted in Apple stores and it is unacceptable that this is going on after driver updates that don't work.

Re: HP Photosmart 6180 Wireless Scanning Problems Leopard Mac OSX 10.5.5

I have been having a similar problem with my 6180. I found that when I reinstall the HP software all is well, UNTIL the blank, blank Apple Software Updater runs and updates the HP drivers to 1.1.1 . Then all goes to hell. You need to reinstall the HP software and then disable (mark to ignore) the HP Driver update from Apple. Then it scans okay. I still have a problem with the OCR software messing up the PDF file but I will try and deal with that later.

My wife has been dealing with this issue and is about to pull her hair out...or throw the HP Photosmart 6180 in the trash. I uninstalled then reinstalled the drivers and it appears to be working. I'm going to ignore updates as another user suggests and see how it goes. Please fix this problem HP!

Re: HP Photosmart 6180 Wireless Scanning Problems Leopard Mac OSX 10.5.5

Well, looks like I'm joining the club. Every time I want to scan I have to reinstall the drivers as well. It looks like this has been ongoing for a while and HP have still not fixed it. If they are going to sell a product to mac users then they have a responsibility to provide a quality service and keep up with the mac updates. I'm moving to Munich soon from Singapore, where I bought the printer (forget customer service here) and with a limited shipping allowance, I'll be leaving my C6180 behind. I'm through with HP unless they can convince me that they can provide me with a quality product. ie one that works consistently with the minimum of fuss.

Re: HP Photosmart 6180 Wireless Scanning Problems Leopard Mac OSX 10.5.5

Hi all,

I also have this printer and this problem that quite honestly I am uttely fed up with it (problem and the printer). I have two Macs, both with this problem and I am at least relieved that the COMMUNITY has a fix for this even if HP doesn't.

I also have a bunch of Windows PCs and can say that the drivers from HP are utter trash. They also have problems scaning to PDF. Between XP, Vista, WIN7 and OSX, only the XP build of the drivers has been even slightly reliable for multi page PDF scanning.

I have vowed because of this printer to never buy HP again. Now at least there is a multi function from Epson that has 6 inks and an autofeeder on my shopping list.

...I'll be reinstalling the drivers now...

Thanks

Solo

[ Edited ]

Hi all,

Thought I'd drop by and update on this issue...

I blocked the 1.1.1 HP Update. Unfortunately, today I want to scan again...guess what it doesn't work AGAIN - Are you listening HP?

I am now ensuring the printer has a DHCP reservation, reinstalling the drivers AGAIN! And I'll scan my papers (after an hour of screwing around AGAIN).

Hopefully, this will finally solve the problem...

HP. Pay Attention to this next part...Next time I need to buy some ink for this printer, I'm going to check the scan function. If it doesn't work, I'm going to buy this instead of ink.

Re: HP Photosmart 6180 Wireless Scanning Problems Leopard Mac OSX 10.5.5

OK...that's it, I've officially had enough.

After the reinstall, I managed to scan a total of 13 pages (4 individual documents). The fifth stopped half way through. It will get half way through again after I turn the printer off and on and that's it. Two hours later I haven't finished the supposedly straightforward task I started out to do.

Thanks HP...that's it...you lost a customer through lack of action and as far as I can tell poor software development.

Adieu, Tschoos, Aurevoir, Goodbye...

Re: HP Photosmart 6180 Wireless Scanning Problems Leopard Mac OSX 10.5.5

It works for me when I go to the printer's IP address in safari (e.g. http://192.168.1.4 or whatever it is on your network)

There is a SCAN button which will bring a hi-res JPEG into your web browser, which you can save or copy/paste into another application.  Colour/B&W options too.

Low tech but it works.
