HP Photosmart C4280 Printer Update not Available

Every time I try to get the latest update for my printer, I get "Update not available. The software service is currently not available. Please try again later.' Have tried again later for a few months. Get same answer. I need to update my printer, or at least to check on updates, for it to work with my new Apple Time Capsule. I'm using a MacBook Pro on Lion.

Re: HP Photosmart C4280 Printer Update not Available

OK so I had to pay $40 for support to fix this. I will put the solution here in case it helps someone.

Go to System Preferences/ Printers and Scanners. You have to pay attention to what printers you have and be able to set them up again. I only had the one. (By the way, it worked fine with the USB hooked into the MacBook, just would not work through the the new Time Capsule).

so anyway, Right click (two finger) the area where the printers are listed in the left. It gives an option to reset--clear everything. Do that. When it's done, reboot. If you had a direct connection set up before, plug the USB into the MacBook, with the printer on before or during the reboot. This should bring back the printer set up for the printer directly plugged into the MacBook.

Once it's back up, go back to Printers and Scanners. Now plug the printer into the Airporter or Time Capsule. Then add a new printer (+ below the printer list) with the printer on. It should find the printer. Add it.

this time it worked for me.
