HP Photosmart C4580, Mac OSX Lion

The printer is unresponsive.  I have done the update.  It worked for about a week.  Now, My MAc will not even recognize the printer.  It tries to download the software but syas the server is down.

This is the second C4580 for me in 3 years.  It has been nothing but a problem/headache.  

Please tell me that there is still support for this model.  I have never needed to print a lot in the past but my new job requires it.

I need to know if this can be resolved or if I need to buy a new Cannon.

Have you tried downloading the HP software from hp.com and installing it?  Is the printer setup USB?  Does it show up in ASP?  We can help, but we need details to do that.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times.  Set up via USB.  After reinstalling, the apple software update opens when I plug the printer in.  It says that it cannot download the software.  

I can access the printer via the HP utility.  But, when I try setting it up in Google Chrome (for Cloud Print), it is not recognized.  Also, I cannot add the printer in the MAC settings.  I can see the printer, but when I click to add, it says it needs to download the software.  Then it says, "The Software for this printer is currently unavailable.  Please contact the printer's manufacturer for the latest software."

Not sure why the ASU isn't working correctly.  Try downloading the HP software directly from Apple.  You can reach it Here

Thanks.  After uninstalling, rebooting, and everything else in betweem, it is working again.

However....

It returns to the "idle" mode.  I have to pause the printer.  Unplug the printer.  Plug in the printer.  then, un pause at the right point to get it to print.  Any fix for that?

Sleep mode issue.  I am on it.  Give me a bit.

thanks.  It is completely unresponsive now.  Even when I unplug and re plug, I got nothing printing.

This is a good news/bad news moment.

Good news, there is a Firmware patch that should resolve this.

Bad news, it isn't Mac compatible.
