HP Photosmart C4680 Scanning problems with Snow Leopard

OK, how are you connecting the printer to the Mac?

I have the same problem as cjb2m5 and I have tried all the same maneuvers. The HP Photosmart C4600 series CD notes it is for Mac OS X v10.4, v10.5, v10.3.  Version 10.6 isn't listed and  presumably that is the problem.  If so, HP needs to provide a download for the new version

This sounds promising.  How do you do a software update?

yes, i always keep my software up to date

my imac is fairly new, bought in July, updated to snow leopard in october (printer was free, you get what you pay for)

thats when the problems started

You'll need to run the scrubber if a standard uninstaller isn't fixing the issue.

Uninstalling by itself doesn't always resolve the issue, so there's a "scrubber" in the software that really cleans things out.*Note* Running this will remove any HP software that was installed, so you'll need to reinstall any other HP printers you have setup to.

Go to Library/Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller

Click on Continue

Highlight your device on the left pane

Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Apple keys and click on Uninstall

There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software.  (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled, which is why we don't run this thing all the time)

Click Continue

Let the scrubber do it's thing.

After that, Add your C4680 through Print and Fax, and let the OS search for updates and such. If it asks you if you want to download them, accept.

That should take care of it.

Progress!  I followed your clear instructions and after scrubbing the HP program a pop-up appeared on the desktop with the option to load the 4600 series software. After loading it, I am able to scan from the computer. However, I no longer have the HP icon in the Applications folder and I can't scan from the printer--the HP screen says Scan Error. Try scan from the computer or see documentation. 

What should I do to get the HP icon back in the Applications folder and also  be able to scan directly from the printer (rather than requiring 4 or 5 clicks on the screen to scan)?
