Hello. I have an HP Photosmart C5280 All-in-One Printer.
I found this string to be enormously informative. I was having all of the same problems that you were helping with. I did everything, and it all worked marvelously. My only concern and point of this would be that I upgraded to Snow Leopard at the same time that I installed an AirPort Extreme. I have been running the printer through the airport extreme all along and had all of the issues that were discussed here. Once I connected the printer directly to the iMac, everything worked fine. But if I switch it back to the AirPort Extreme, I can print... but no scan.
My question is this: Should I use the AirPort Extreme for network printing capabilities and when I need to use the scanner just plug it into the iMac? Is this a normal situation? Why would the AirPort not support HP Scan Utilities? Isn't it just a pass through portal? The suggestion I read was to buy a printer that has wireless capabilities. I REALLY do not want to buy ANOTHER printer.

I have the exact same scanning issues. When I tried running the scrubber i can't get past the first step:
Go to Library/Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
When I click on HP Uninstaller folder, I see:
HPcleanup.scbr
RelaunchDM
Neither of those things will open... Can you help?
Thanks.

Do you realize that the USB port on an Airport will only support printing, not scanning?

I was not aware that Airport does not support scanning. I guess that answers that. I figure what I will have to do is unplug from the Airport and plug into the iMac when I want to scan. Just have to make sure it is set up to accommodate both locations.
Thank you for the quick answer. Everything else worked as far as using the scrubber and reinstalling everything else. At least it is all figured out and I know what I have to do to use the scanner.
Maybe the next time I need a printer, I will make sure I get one that is wireless and networkable.

Airport supports scanning through its wireless or Ethernet connections, but not through the USB connection.
