HP Photosmart C4680 Scanning problems with Snow Leopard

If you open IMAGE CAPTURE from the Applications folder, you can scan from there and it avoids the Photosmart/Snow Leopard problem.

I read the posts about trying to get C4680 to scan on Macs with Snow Leopard.   Tried some of the suggestions and none worked.   Has anyone ever figured it out?   HP instructions say it should work, but as of 2011, I find it doesn't.

Where do you print the item to be scanned if you want to do it with Image Capture?

MBJustice - Thanks for your detailed help, it fixed the problem I had (same as this thread).  Too bad it's SO HARD to give Kudos and post a reply without handing over my first born.  Maybe that's something they can fix next.

Did you ever get a satisfactory fix for this problem ? I too have a C4680 that is not reconized by the imac system preference, or the HP C4680 scanner software.  Printer works great.

If you are using Snow Leopard or Lion and have HP software for pre-Snow Leopard (either from a CD not marked as compatible with 10.6 or you recently upgraded to Snow Leopard or Lion and had the HP software on your Mac before you upgraded - even if you did a standard uninstall of the old software or installed new software over the top of it) you must uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:

Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall <<<< This IS the Scrubber Option, there is no button labeled "Scrubber"
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish

Restart your Mac

Now reset the printing system:

- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Hello,

I am having the same problem. I cannot find my Hp photosmart C4680 folder in my applications. I installed snow lepoard into my computer and now I cannot scan. I did everything it said to do with uninstalling the printer and reinstalling it. I just can't find the folder now. How can I get this back?

Reset the printing system:

- Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
- Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!

I did every thing you said, but now when I try to scan something a message pops up saying...." ERROR. The scan cannot be performed because another program has control of the HP imaging device."

I shut every thing down that was open on my computer and it still says that

OK, restart your printer & Mac.

Try scanning with Image Capture in your Applications folder.
