HP Photosmart C7280 - Errors, Flashing Lights, Etc. - Mac OSX 10.7.3 [ Edited ]

The printer is set-up with direct usb connection in a Mac OSX 10.7.3 environment.

The printer goes haywire. The lights start flashing and it displays numerous random error codes at different times.

I tried to reset the printer, shutdown and restart, etc. These fixes do work, but they are temporary.

The printer is not that old and has rarely been used. There should be a way to fix this issue.

Please help.

Hmm.  When does it start displaying the error codes and lights?  Is it after sending a print job or right when you turn it on, or something like that?  Has anything changed?  Cartridges replaced, etc.

It's random.  No changes. Usually, if the printer is on, in the moring it will be flashing. 

Also, at different time throuhgout the day, it will display errors codes and sometimes just flashes.

OK.  Well, we need to figure out where the issue lies before we can fix it.  First I would remove the USB cable, reboot the printer and let it sit.  See if it errors.  If it does, than it is in the hardware.  If not, than we look at communications/ports/etc.  Try a new USB cable in a different port, make sure it is connected directly to your Mac and not going through a hub or router.  Straight to the Mac.

I disconnected all cables. Restarted and connected high speed usb directly to the mac.

Right now the lights are flashing.

Orange Exclamation Point Flashing.

Blue Photo Menu, Red Removal & Print Photos Buttons Flashing.

Blue Auto Answer Button Flashing.

Blue On - Off Button Flashing

"high-speed USB"  What USB are you using?  2.0 is as high as this printer will go.

OK.  Did you remove the USB cable and power cycle the printer yet?  We need to let it sit unattached to see if it errors out again.

I have disconnected the usb and power cycled the printer. I am wating to see when it errors our again. It does not always happen immediately. Thanks.

In addition, I cannot set-up the printer wirelessly since my network has security which the printer does not seem to support?
