HP Photosmart Plus will print color documents but will not print color pictures

I reset printer color options a while back and the reset again recently. I wanted to save on color ink. However, no matter what I set for printer to print color photos, it will not. I can print color documents. Please help! I wanted to print pics to send with Christmas cards :smileyhappy: Thanks!! I DO NEED HELP!!!

What version of OS X?  Are you printing from iPhoto or what?
