HP Photosmart Prem c310 wireless "printer not responding."

Wireless. Mac OSX 10.7.3. I have deleted the printer and added it back but the device added was an HPF868C1. It has a green dot next to it, the Prem c310 has a red house icon and the "device status is unknown." I have unplugged it and restarted it to no success. What to do?

Are you sure the printer is connected to your network OK?  And your Mac is connected to the same network?

If so:

Download and install this: support.apple.com/kb/DL907

Reset the printing system:

- Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
- Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Re: HP Photosmart Prem c310 wireless "printer not responding."

Thank you, Dean, for your prompt reply. I have downloaded the file and reset the printers. The newest error message said "The printer doesn't exist..." and now says that "The printer is not responding." I very recently installed a HP update from Apple. I don't recall what it was... And don't know if there is a way to go back to identify it... Maybe with Time Machine... But unsure how to use Time Machine. Anyway, the problem began, I believe, with the update. I would appreciate any other suggestions or maybe will just call Tech Support again. Sue

Re: HP Photosmart Prem c310 wireless "printer not responding."

Tell me about the printer setup.  Is it connected to your wireless network or is it connected by USB?  If network, what router?

If networked, printe a Wireless Network Test from the Setup > Wireless menu.  What does it say about the wireless connection?

Re: HP Photosmart Prem c310 wireless "printer not responding."

I have a similar problem with MacBook Air and my c310.   My printer shows up in my settings, but when I print (from Mac Word) nothing happens.  Then when I go the print queue it tells me the printer is not connected and gives me the barbershop-pole type searching animation.   Yet my printer is on the network (little wifi symbol on) and my Mac senses it is there.   I tried the same downloads you recommended and absolutely no change.   My printer and MacBook are connected via  WiFi (WPA/WPA2 Personal) and I have my provider is Qwest/Century Link, so... DSL.

Help?   I had NO problem using this exact same printer from my Windows PC, btw, for over a year.

Re: HP Photosmart Prem c310 wireless "printer not responding."

I resolved my problem at the Genius Bar. It seems to be related to the latest Lion update. Have you noticed a Software Update from Apple for HP? When I tried to download and install it, I would get a message saying that it was unable to be installed because it was defective.... Ie: it had been corrupted. The Genius finally was able to download it from the Apple website for updates. He explained something to the effect that the Software Update website servers (?) are different than those that are used by the Apple site. Don't know if this makes sense to you or will help, but if you can get to a Genius Bar, or can get phone support from Apple, try it. Good luck!
