Every time I boot up my iMac with OS X Lion and I check for new software updates, the HP Printer Software Update 2.8 is an available software update to download. So I download it and install it, and then the next time I reboot my computer, the update is available again. I don't know if the update is not installing correctly and so that is why it's available for download again, or if the software just isn't telling my computer that it doesn't need to be updated again. Either way, Apple/HP, please correct this problem!
Anyone else out there having this problem?
I have not had this issue with any other software, HP or non-HP, to date.
Joe

I am experiencing the same issue. For me this occures when I install the latest full Lion package for the D110a printer. Then the 2.8 update appears every time I run the Mac Software Update. If I uninstall the full Lion HP package, the 2.8 update only appears once. The full package includes many application that I prefer, such as Scan 3 and the HP Utility program.
+1 for Apple/HP to fix this issue.

with Lion I have originaly used HP software to setup wireless printing and it wont let go of driver so
1.) go to MacintoshHD/Library/Printers and delete folder hp
2) go to system preferences select Print & Scan select hp printer click " -" to delete printer
3) control click on white space inside printers window Reset printing system
4) click "+" to add desired printer (for wireless printing select the "Bonjour Multifunction" Kind
5) exit addprinter exit System Preferences run Software Update install HP Printer Software Update 2.8
6) run software update again and to verify you are complete.

I bought two HP printers a couple of weeks ago. But in the last 5 days, autoupdate has begun to offer 2.8 each time I begin to use the computer, whether I restart or not. So this problem has not been resolved. HP, are you listening?

Hi
for what it's worth, I'm really beginning to feel that it's not HP, but Apple that haven't yet got their updated drivers in tune:
New Officejet Pro Plus 8600 2nd week into September 2012
Software installed onto MacBook Pro (late 2008) running Lion [later, after LOADS of trying various uninstall/install routines, though that maybe, just maybe Mountain Lion might be OK. No :-( ]
Initially, printing was fine, scanning 'if-ey'
Updated
Scanning ok, printing remains in q. ...4ever
...lots and lots of tries...
OJ Pro works fine from G4 iBook
fine from Acer laptop running Vista
fine from my MBP if using shared printer from G4
fine from MBP when booted from external, cloned from G4 iBook, drive with Leopard
Am continually concluding that it is the driver released by Apple that, presumably, HP then incorporate into their instal software downloads
Searching the web certainly comes up with many comments re people having difficulty with their Mac systems and the OJ P (and other HP printers)
