HP Scan can't find scanner after Lion upgrade

I upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard and followed HPs instructions (uninstall, reinstall driver for 10.6, Install Lion update). Now HP Scan can't find my scanner (Scanjet 4370).

Good job on finding that and following the instructions!

Let's try a couple of things in other parts of OSX:

1. Reset the printing system:

- Go to System Preferences > Print & Fax
- Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

2. Repair Disk Permissions:

- Finder > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.  Open it.

- Select your Macintosh HD on the left, then click Repair Disk Permissions along the bottom.

3. Restart your Mac.

Thanks for the quick reply. Before I reset the PRINT/FAX function, I want make sure that you understand that I am talking about a SCANNER, right?

Yup, however in 10.6 and 10.7 run scanning communication through this system as well.  In fact, in Lion it is labeled as Print & Scan in System Prefs.

OK, I did the reset but after clicking the +, only my printer shows up, not the scanner. I went to System Information under the Apple menu and it shows that the scanner is plugged into the high-speed USB buss.

OK, let's reset the PRAM.  Turn the Mac off.  If its a laptop, unplug the charger.

Hold the Command-Option-P-R keys and turn the Mac on.  Hold these 4 keys until after you hear the 3rd chime, then release.

OK, PRAM reset. Also repaired permissions. No effect. HPS still can't find scanner. Tried connecting the scanner to another computer that is still on Snow Leopard; works fine.

OK, let's go to Apple menu, hold the Option key and click System Information.  Along the left side, under Hardware, click on USB.

Does your Mac show the scanner being connected?  This is a hardware check.

Yes it does. USB high-speed buss

This verifies that your Mac can indeed see the scanner and that we are dealing with a software issue.

Do you have HP scanner software in your Applications folder?  Is there an uninstaller in that folder?  Don't uninstall yet, just let me know...
