I have HP office pro 8600 plus. I followed the instruction on the manual and set up scan to email. But scan to email does not work. I keep getting error messages. Under outgoing email profile I click on 'test' and I get 'connection failed'

First, make sure you have the latest firmware for yout printer:
If there is no change, the issue being caused by either wrong settings or a network connectivity issue.
Please let me know which email provider you are using and the exact settings you used to configure the email access (No need to mention any user and password information of course )
It will allow to better understand any possible cause.

I have the same issue. What I have found is that there is a problem with the setup utility on the printer itself. If you check the 'SMTP server requires authentication for outgoing e-mail messages' checkbox and set a SMTP User ID and a SMTP Password when you get to STEP 5 you will see that 'SMTP server requires authentication for outgoing e-mail messages' is Disabled. If you go back to STEP 2 and do the above but also check the 'Always use secure connection (SSL/TLS)' checkbox, you will notice that on STEP 5 'SMTP server requires authentication for outgoing e-mail messages' will be ENABLED.
Long story short, they have the check boxes on STEP 2 switched. I also verified that my firmware was up to date.
The scan to email will only work if you do not need a secure connetion and you don't need authentication.

I have a problem with association. I can scan in a document and have it emailed to my email address.
From the computer I can scan but when I try and email it states I do not have the email associated
with an email program. Very little help how to do this.
A few pictures would make this a lot easier.

I recently purchased HP Officejet 8600 Pro and have been using the scan to e-mail without any issues, via the Web Embedded Sever and Windows 7 Operating System.
However, I unplugged the unit for about 2 weeks as I was away on holiday. When I returned back. I plugged everything back and tried to scan to e-mail agani, but I kept getting the username or password is incorrect on the printer control panel.
From the printer I reset everything back to factory default and from the embedded web server I deleted the old profile and then set up a new profile for the scan to e-mail using my e-mail address, firstname.lastname@example.org and display name as xxx xxxx. Then set the SMTP to mail.btinernet.com using port 25 and I also tried port 587. The SSL secure box was not ticked.
Initially, the scan to e-mailed worked for a while using port 587, but then after 1 day I started getting the authentication failed again..
I have logged into my btopenworld.com / btinternet.com account without any issues via the web so I know that my username and password is correct.
Can you please assist.

I have a somewhat similar problem with scan to email - when I first tried scan to email, I was required to go thru the mailset up procedure on my computer which was sucessful, test emails go to my emaill address, now when I scan to email, the email window appears showing the just scaned document as an attachment and I fill in the address bar for who I want the email to go to, click send, I get no error messages, but the email never appears in the receipients inbox?

I had the same issue where I was scanning to email and the email was showing up on my wife's phone and in OWA, but it did not appear in the Outlook mailbox on her Mac with Outlook 2011. We finally figured it out. She was sorting the mail using the Conversation flag and some way that the HP scan to email was sending the email made it so that the email was very hard to find. At least try unsetting teh Conversation flag and see if the email scan is there.

The SMTP password should be the password for your AOL account. If that doesn't work, you will have to contact AOL to find out what SMTP password that they are using.

I have the same problem as all. I've noticed when testing from the EWS it works but from the printer interface pad it won't work, userid and password incorrect message. I have also used the printer assistant software to set my smtp but have to retype my password every time I edit my profile. Could this be the issue with the printer not holding the password?
