My ability to scan to my computer (MacBook Air OSX 10.7.3) just failed after a few months. On the printer console my computer name is visible and selectable. When I select scan to pdf or scan to jpeg (or any of these options) the scanner starts but then an error message pops up informing of a Connection Error...The connection to the computer has been lost OR The HP Scan application cannot detect the OCR software. Check the computer screen for more details.
On the computer a window pops up with the following error message: Task not available. The “Save as PDF” task found on your device is not available on your system. Please select another task.
Also, when I review my Scan Tasks in the Scan to Computer area of the HP Utility, all of the tasks generate the same message when selected using Test or Edit.
Scanning initiated from my computer using the Webscan utility works but then a Status message comes up telling me:
Scan Done. Click the Save icon to save the scan on your computer. There is no save icon anywhere to be found!![]()
I tried removing the HP software and re-installing (Hp_Lion_Ink_SW_V12-1-1.13.18.dmg) with the same results.
What changed? How do you spell frustrating.....HP or Mac?
Geoff

Try turning off the printer, removing the power cable, and letting the printer rest for about 5 minutes disconnected from a power source.
After the time has passed reconnect the printer to your computer while the computer is ON.
Hope this helps!
Are you connecting the printer to MAC via USB or wirelessly?
If my post helped you in any way, please click the blue KUDOS star under my name! It would mean a great deal.

Hello,
Thanks for the post. These types of connection error messages can usually be attributed to a couple of things. Your post indicates that you were able to scan successfully in the past. Did anything change? Did you change location or connection type? New hardware?
I've included a couple of links below with some great information on this and some other options for scanning. Also, there is a Firmware upgrade and Update that address scanning issues. Strongly recommend that you do these as well. Third Link is direct to the update. Good Luck!

Thx. Tried all this. No change. Also have another identical printer at work. This one was also working but doesn't scan to computer now either. Appears to be something with my computer not the printer. Tried HP Scan3 from the computer and this works. My guess is the Mac OS needs an update to make the scan driver work as it doesn't recognize any of the scan to computer options. Question is, what do I change?
Nothing changed except maybe some automatic updates. Printing wirelessly. Never use cables any more!
Thx for your suggestions.

Thx. Will look at your links. I did look at the firmware update earlier but it was the same version as what I currently have so didn't update. Did get the HP Scan3 software to work so I do have scanning capability from my computer. All is almost well!
