I just installed Officejet 6500A all-in-one w/ MAC OS 10.5.8.  Everything (MS Office 2008, Safari, Firefox, etc.) prints in color only.  Called HP tech assistance which does not support anything but Text Edit (there IS a "print black only" option in this application).  Tech assist told me to call vendors or pay for more assistance through HP.  

 

Tried to override HP printer settings through MAC System Preferences/Printers & Faxes but don't see where to set print settings.

OK I just solved my own problem through Intuit's community forum.  Select paper handling/ special papers and you get the color print option.  

 

It's pretty bad that HP's tech assist could not resolve this issue when I called in -- in fact, I think the tech was just scrolling through HP's online support.  

 

Of course, their Help Forum website is going to post my solution to my own posted problem as a big green check mark "SOLVED!"
