My printer is an officejet 6500A with e-capability. After much troubleshooting, I managed to print remotely from one of the two MACS in my home network. A couple of hours later, I tried to print remotely again with negative results. The print job was in the queue but the control icon showed Pause. When Pause was clicked to change to Resume the printer icon showed "printer offline".
I had previously locked all Print and Scan preferences but they somehow came unlocked without a cue. Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Any help would be appreciated.

What version of OS X? What router?

The router-modem is an AT&T 2Wire Gateway hooked up to an Airport Express. The Macs in the home network have a Lion OS (10.7.3) and a Leopard OS (10.6.8). The HP Network Configuration Page I printed on 5/2/12 did not show any problems (remote printing test was succesful immediately after). Signal Quality was 5 on a scale of 1-5.

OK, so you have two routers in your home - the 2Wire and the Airport Express. This can get very complex very fast.
Go to the Airport Utility (Applications > Utilities folder), click on your Express, go to Wireless and tell me what wireless mode you are using (Join a Network, Extend a Network, etc).
What is the printer's IP address (print a WIreless Network Test from the Network menu on the front of the printer).

As a result of your questions I think I may have found the problem. The network checked in the system preferences of the two distinct MACs did not agree. I've addressed the problem by eliminating extraneous network names from the provided list and everything appears to be working (after two tests).
I thank you very much for your assistance.
