I have been trying to install the Deskjet 2050 on my Dell laptop Windows 7 Home Premium today with no success. It is hooked up by USB. When I plug the USB into my computer, my Windows does not recognize the device and no drivers are installed. I have used the cd that came with the printer. When it comes time for me to connect the printer, the software does not recognize that it has been connected. Obviously there is some type of connection because my computer recognizes an unknown device has been connected but has failed. I have searched online, I have downloaded the drivers from the HP website, and I have uninstalled, restarted my computer and installed the program again. I do not know what to do! Please help!

Why are you posting this on the Mac printing board?
With the printer USB unplugged, download and install the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page. Restart your PC, then plug the printer in again.
