I reinstalled the operating system on my Mac 10.6.8 & can't duplex print

Deskjet 6988dt. I had to reinstall the operating system on my Mac 10.6.8. Now I can't get to the boxes to select duplex printing. I've tried removing the printer in the System Preferences, turning off the printer, removing the duplexer, reinstalling it, turning on the printer, reinstall the printer in System Preferences. Doesn't help. I still can't get to the selections for two-sided printing.

Any suggestions?

Next, reset the printing system:

- Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
- Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Thank you for the quick response.

I downloaded and installed the driver. However I really don't want to reset/delete all my printers. One of them is an Epson 3880 large format printer for my black &  white photography. After the reinstall, it took a combination of Epson and Apple support to get it up and running to recognize the Advance Black & White printing mode.

After installing the PrintDrivers2.8, I used System Preferences>Print&Scan to delete the HP printer and then readded it. But the two-sided printing option is still blacked out.

Would it help to delete the printer, shut it down, restart the computer, turn the printer on and then add the printer in Print&Scan? Or....what should I do?

Sure, try that.  Sometimes deleting and re-adding will do the trick.

Additionally, please make sure the duplexer accessory enabled within the print queue settings:

1. Open the System Preferences
2. Go to Print & Fax.
3. Open the print queue of your printer by double clinking its name.
4. Click on Printer Setup
5. Clink the Driver tab.
6. Verify the box next to HP Two-sided Printing Accessory (Duplexer) is checked.

Wow! Thank you so much. I never knew that the two-sided printed checkbox was an option in the Printer Setup>Driver. That was exactly the problem. Printing two-sided now works. Thank you!!! Marj

will this work for my photosmart 6510 I am running snow leaopard 10.6.8 and cant find the two sided print menu like i can with my desktop running just plain old leopard?
