I updated my os software to mountain lion yesterday. Today I found out that my scanning function from the physical printer and via the software on my imac will not work. Seems to be a communication error. I have done everything suggested on your website with no solution. Please help....

Hi,
Try clicking the Apple icon, click Software Update and install any available HP Update.
Then try scanning via Image Capture (Under the Applications Folder) or fo to System Prieferences > Print & Scan and click the Scanner tab.
For any issue, please clarify your printer model.. It will really help to better understand any further possibilities.
Regards,
Shlomi

Thanks - using Image Capture worked great. Much better than using Preview's scan feature. Appreciate your help.

I have an HP Photosmart C4795 with the USB wired into a new Apple Time Capsule. If I want to print, fine. If I want to Scan, even if I do all of the steps outlined for the previous user, no go. So it appears that my Scan utility is completely gone with the new OS Mountain Lion update?
Please advise. I do not have wireless on. I am attempting to scan by plugging the USB from the printer into my computer.

I had to uninstall my printer, reinstall it, make sure it did not connect to the Apple Time Capsule (funny / ironic that my printer is actually pictured on Apple's Website connected to the Apple Time Capsule), then hard wire the USB into the computer. It finally scanned. But I can't do this everytime I need to scan. IT means I have to unpair the printer from Airport Utility and reinstall drivers, etc. etc.
This is classic Apple making everyone figure things out (including HP) without any advance notice of system changes.
My question to HP is, what steps are necessary so that the "HP Photosmart C4795" will be plugged into the Apple Time Capsule so that the HP Photosmart C4795 can scan to my computer (wirelessly or with wires).
HP and Apple should figure this one out. I could scan before the mountain lion update but not after.

I has the same problem with my D110 Photosmart. The way I fixed it was to delete the printer, then reinstall but I chose the D1100 Photosmart driver and not Airplay
Scanning works now

I use Image Capture all the time. I installed Mountain Lion on 4 of 5 of my Macs. I have tried it on two so far. Image Capture is totally non-useable. The odd thing is that the failure modes on the two machines are entirely different. There are no software updates. I know on one of the Macs I removed and reinstalled the printer. I don't know if the issue resides in the HP drivers, or with the App. I have an HP6500.
Here are just some of the things I see,
If I have SHOW DETAILS selected, after and overview scan from the flatbed, the SCAN button is gray (can't select it). If I select HIDE DETAILS, the SCAN button become functional. Despite the same scanner settings for DPI, color, etc it creates a 3 MB file. Manytimes the scan will fail half way through the process. Now, if I scan the same docment through the document feeder, it will scan nicely and create a 354KB file that looks fine. Scanning from the flatbed is basically not useable.
On the other Mac, Image Capture initializes in the flatbed setting. It will try to select many images on this document to create multiple files. Now, if I select a specific LETTER size, all of the little selection boxes disappear, and one large letter size slection is created. After overview, the SCAN button is OK. If I then SCAN, it begins creating MANY files. It's as if all the individual files it was going to create when CUSTOM SIZE was selected ARE being created.
I don't know if I need to delete the plist file, reinstall ImageCapture.app or what.
I will try another Mac to see what happens. A friend of mine indicated that Image Capture works fine with his Mountain Lion install..
