L7550 only prints when paper type set to photo

HI,

I have an all-in-one L7550 which was working fine.  All of a sudden it stopped printing when the paper type was set to plain paper.  I can print on plain paper only if I set the paper type to photo paper.  Diagnostic printing works correctly and shows no errors, this only happens when I try to print a document, webpage etc or try to photocopy or print from a scan.  Ink levels are fine.

Very odd.

Help appreciated.

      Let's see if we can't get this figured out!  I want to make sure I understand the last part of your post.

1. If you were to do walk up copy, you still have an issue? Directly from the front panel of the L7550.

2. Are you using the Automatic Document Feeder or are you placing the scanned image on the glass?

Thanks for getting back to me.

I have a bit more information for you.

1.This issue is only affecting black ink printing.  When I did a print test on the front of the copier only the colour cartridges printed, no black.  I have since found out this is the issue with document printing aswell.

2. When photocopying or scanning it makes no difference if using the automated document feeder or if placed directly on the glass.

Hello Jo,

     The first thing that comes to mind and this is only because it is simple, is it time to change the black out?  By choosing Photo for the paper this also changes other settings, which may use a photo black or colors to make a black.  This would be the first thing I would suggest, ensure the black still has ink.

     The second thing I would suggest is to run a Clean Printhead test from the Tools menu on the printer.  Please post your results.

HI again,

A new black HP Ink Cartidge was already installed but the problem was not resolved.

I cleaned the printheads as you suggested, and tried printing a test page from the machine.  Still no black but colour fine, again.

I have already tried restoring factory settings and a re-install of software.  Both to no effect.

Grrrrr.  This one has me stumped.
